First Use of Urdu
Ghulam Hamadani Mushafi initially used the word “Urdu” in 1780. It was known as Hindi during the 13th and 18th centuries. However, Dehlavi and Hindavi were used to refer to the Urdu language. It was written in the same Persian script that Muslims and Hindus use.
Hindustani and English supplanted Persian as the official languages in 1837, ending the tradition. Outside the Indian continent, Hindustani was well-liked.
